Description
Ivy House is a house and former Wesleyan chapel, dating from the 17th century, with alterations and refurbishment in the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick with flint detailing, and has a slate roof. The building comprises two blocks of two bays each, joined at a gable. The main entrance is through a six-panel door, set within an early 19th-century portico. The windows are mostly sixteen-pane sashes, with one twelve-pane sash in bay four, which was formerly the chapel. Ground floor windows are set within half-brick relieving arches. Bay one is constructed of flint and stone, with brick quoins, and likely represents a portion of the original 17th-century structure. Inside, there are chamfered ceiling beams with stepped run-out stops, and pegged rafters to the purlins. The roof space over the former chapel is said to contain an original barrel vault.
