Description
St Mary's Congregational Church is located on Northgate Street and is set back from the street with a forecourt. The main body of the church is constructed from red brick with stone quoins and likely dates from the 18th century. The wide gabled front, made of ashlar, is from the mid-19th century. The façade is flanked by buttresses that have tapering octagonal caps. There is a large central Perpendicular window, with pointed windows featuring cusping in the arches on either side. Drip moulds are present on rosette stops, along with a moulded sill course. The entrance has paired doorways with moulded pointed arches and squat flanking shafts that have foliate capitals. On either side of the entrance, there are similar pointed windows to those above, but they are taller. St Mary's Congregational Church, along with Nos 19 and 20, Sandcliffe, and Northgate House, form a group.
