Description

Wadworth's Brewery is a large deep red brick brewery built in 1885, located on the corner of New Park Street and Northgate Street. The building stands six storeys tall, featuring a gabled centre and a lower four-storey gabled section to the right. There is also a two-storey gabled extension at the front on the right side. The corner of the building is curved, and it has three and two-storey extensions along Northgate Street, spanning nine bays in total. The gables have a low pitch with cut brick copings that create a bargeboard effect.

Notable features include a bull's eye window in the centre gable, a trefoil light in the gable of the four-storey right-hand section, and another bull's eye in the gable of the two-storey extension. Each floor has sill courses, and the windows are fitted with recessed iron frame pivot casements and cambered brick arches. The main entrance, which extends up to the second floor, occupies the width of the central gabled section and has a rusticated raised brick surround with an elliptical archway and keystone.

The corner block facing Northgate Street has a hipped slate roof with a raised platform, ornate cast iron balustrade, and weathervanes at the corner. A very tall square brick chimney rises from the yard above the roofline, featuring a cornice head and triglyph frieze. The brewery occupies a dominant position, closing the perspective from the Market Place.
