Description

This is a house located at 80 Gloucester Road, dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century, with alterations made in the late 18th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, featuring a brick stack on the left gable and a stone slate roof. The building has a two-room parallel plan, with a right-hand rear wing and a left-hand rear outshut. It stands two storeys tall and has a three-window range. The central doorway is framed by timber lintels and has a recessed boarded door. The windows include horned sashes with margin panes, and there is a former shop window with plate glass on the ground floor to the left.

Inside, notable features include a Tudor-arched stone fire surround with double ovolo moulding and diamond stops, a chamfered axial ceiling beam on the ground floor with a bar stop, and a 19th-century rear stair flight. The roof structure consists of three bays with collar trusses, a central pair that is cut, a diagonal ridge beam, two trenched purlins, and a truss in the right-hand gable. A scratch-moulded 6-panel door from the 17th century is located on the first floor, and there is a curved wall on the rear left-hand side that indicates the former position of a winder stair.
