Description
This building is a house located at 88 Gloucester Road, dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with a refronting from the early 19th century. The front is made of brick with limestone dressings, while the sides and rear are constructed from limestone rubble. It features a brick gable stack and a stone slate roof, with a double-depth plan. The house has two storeys and an attic, with a one-window range.
The front has rusticated quoins and a coped gable with kneelers and a finial, which is set forward of the original front. There is a left-hand doorway that has a bracketed canopy and a six-panel door, with the top pair of panels glazed. The windows have raised surrounds with cill blocks and plain cornices, including 8/8-pane sashes and a round-arched attic 6/6-pane sash. The right-hand gable has been significantly altered but retains fragments of a ridge. The rear features a one-window range with an 8/8-pane ground-floor sash in a flush box, a horned 8/8-pane half dormer sash, and a mid-20th century roof dormer with casements. The interior has not been inspected. Historically, this house was originally part of No. 86.
