Description
No. 42 Church Road is a cottage from around 1850, part of the Bowood estate. It is built from squared rubble stone and features a stone slate roof with eaves, along with a large rear wall stack that has paired octagonal shafts. The cottage is designed in a picturesque Tudor style and is single storey with an attic. It includes decorative finials on the gables and leaded stone mullion windows. The centre of the cottage has a shouldered dormer gable with a two-light window above an off-centre projecting gabled porch that has a Tudor arched doorway. To the left of the porch is a single light window, while to the right is a three-light window with a hoodmould. The south end wall features a two-light window above a four-light window, both with hoodmoulds. This cottage may have been designed by Emily, Lady Shelburne, who also designed Nos. 22-23 Old Derry Hill, as indicated in Bowood estate plans.
