Description
Nos 39 and 40 on Church Road are a pair of cottages from the early 19th century, part of the Bowood estate. They are constructed from ironstone with ashlar dressings and feature a Bridgwater tile eaves roof. The cottages are one and a half storeys tall and have a T-plan layout, with paired diagonal chimney stacks located on the ridge and rear wall of No 39.
The exterior includes flush quoins and unmoulded stone mullion windows. The left gable has barge boarding, with an upper two-light window and a lower three-light window, both featuring hoodmoulds. On the right side, there is a ground floor two-light window and a door set in a lean-to porch, with a two-light window above in a barge boarded dormer gable. The west end displays a two-light window above a three-light window, both with hoodmoulds. The east side features a central upper two-light window in a dormer gable above a lean-to hipped porch, which has two-light windows on each side, also with hoodmoulds.
