Nos 39 To 51 And Attached Walls And Railings

A terrace of seven houses, numbers 39 to 51, dating from approximately 1865 to 1875, likely designed by JW Rowell. The houses are constructed of snecked local grey limestone rubble with painted dressings, and have slate roofs with gables and half-hips. The stacks have stone shafts with platbands and multiple pots. Each house has a single-depth main range, a small rear projection, and a rear wing creating a small rear service yard.

The two-storey facades each feature two windows, with the central house set back and gabled. The flanking houses, numbers 47 and 43, are half-hipped to the front, while numbers 49 and 41 have pairs of gabled dormers. Numbers 51 and 39 are gabled to the front with set-back blocks on the outer returns. Each house, apart from the ends, has a crank-arched, stop-chamfered doorway to the left, with original vertically-boarded doors featuring crank-headed fanlights. The ground-floor window to the right is a three-light transomed casement with painted dressings, and the first floor has two similarly-glazed windows. Attic windows are present in the gables of numbers 39, 45 and 51. Number 39 has a conservatory across the front with trefoil leaded lights. Front gardens are enclosed by rubble walls with iron railings. The interior has not been inspected but may retain features of interest.
