Description
Cary Lodge is a small house, currently used as offices, built around the 1820s, with likely later changes to its windows. The building is plastered and features a slate roof that is gabled at the left end and hipped at the right end of the main block. There is a brick chimney stack with a projecting band.
The house is located on a terrace below Montpellier Terrace, with a garden in front and a large retaining wall to the right. It has two storeys and an asymmetrical front with three windows. The approximately central round-headed doorway has recessed moulding and features a six-panel door, with the upper panels being glazed, along with a plain fanlight above. To the left, there is a tripartite window with a moulded architrave, glazed with four-pane sashes that have horizontal glazing bars. To the right, there is a later canted bay window, also glazed in a similar manner.
On the first floor, there are 20th-century timber French windows to the left and centre, while the right side has a four-pane sash window with horizontal glazing bars. A decorative cast-iron balcony with an anthemia design and a guilloche frieze is supported by cast-iron columns. The interior has not been inspected but may still have interesting features.
