Description

No 34 is a one and a half storey thatched cottage built from rubble. It features a brick chimney dated 1741 on the ridge. The cottage has three eyebrow dormers, two light casements, and three ground floor windows, one of which was formerly a door. Timber lintels are present above the openings. The door is located to the left of centre and has a datestone above it. This cottage served as the model for the house of the principal character in "The Gamekeeper at Home" by Richard Jefferies, a local poet-naturalist who lived from 1848 to 1887.
