Description
Hodson Farmhouse is a building from the mid-to-late 17th century, constructed of rubble and thatched roofing. It has an 'L'-shaped plan. The left wing is a one-and-a-half storey cottage featuring two eyebrow dormers, one of which is blocked, and two windows with timber lintels that are three-light casements. There is a central door and two brick chimneys that are connected by tiles to the rear of the older block. The right wing is a gabled two-and-a-half storey cross wing with a cellar, which includes four-light windows and a three-light cellar window with mullions. The gable is designed for a chimney that connects with the cottage. Inside, the cottage has a through passage and two inglenooks, with one inglenook being blocked. It was formerly an open hall and retains two smoke-blackened crucks, which were not seen during inspection but are confirmed by the Victoria County History. The ground floor entrance to the north wing features a Jacobean paired doorway, with the original door on the left and a former cellar door on the right.
