Description

These are two 18th-century buildings on Swindon Street in Highworth, altered over time. Number 8 has two storeys and an attic, while Number 9 is two storeys high and incorporates two shops at ground level. Both buildings are rendered. Number 8 has two windows, while Number 9 has a wider front with two shops. Number 8 has modern casement windows, and Number 9 has late 19th-century sash windows with flat moulded surrounds. The shopfront of Number 9 features three square bays with arched glazing of a plain pattern, and a central door. A through passage leads to a long, two-storey extension at the rear, constructed of rubble. The buildings have a moulded wooden eaves board and are topped with a modern tile roof, with two brick chimneys. The buildings are included in the listing because of their group value.
