Description

Chiseldon House is a detached late Regency villa built around 1827. It is two storeys high and constructed of ashlar with a slate roof. The house features flanking chimneys with moulded capping and raised, ramped verges. The south front has side piers and three first-floor windows, which are glazing bar sashes with marginal glazing. On the ground floor, there are two tripartite windows with reeded pilasters and a central alcove. In front of the house is a three-bay segmental verandah arcade with flanking arches and dividing incised pilasters, topped by a cast iron balcony with a Greek-key pattern.

The east gable front serves as the entrance and has three bays, with a band at the first-floor cill level, a panel in the chimney, and another below in the gable. It features flanking blind windows with moulded architraves and a projecting central Greek Doric portico. Above this is an early 20th-century square bay with mullion and transom windows. To the north, there is a large 2.5-storey service wing added, likely in the mid-19th century, which has a mansard stone tile roof.

Inside, the villa boasts an elegant stone staircase with arched cast iron balusters and decorative husks, topped by a dome with ribs and an oculus featuring patterned designs. The segmental stair arch has guttae below corbels. The south-east ground floor room includes columns supporting a marble fireplace and a large grate.
