Description

This barn, located 60 yards southeast of Yate Court Farmhouse, is likely from the 16th century and was altered in the 18th century. It is constructed of rubble and features a double Roman tiled roof. The barn has slit vents and loft doors, with a central square-headed vehicle entry. To the left, there is a freestone doorway with a chamfered surround and a four-centred head, flanked by two single light windows, also with chamfered surrounds. Inside, the barn has six bays supported by tie and collar beam trusses. The west end of the barn once served as a pier for a 13th or 14th-century gatehouse, which is now located at Berkeley Castle in Gloucestershire. This barn is part of an important manorial complex that dates back to the late 13th century and was associated with the Berkeley family and the Crown.
