4/259 Barn, 60 yards to south east of Yate Court Farmhouse

Barn. Probably C16, altered C18. Rubble; double Roman tiled roof. Slit vents and loft doors; central square headed vehicle entry. To the left is a freestone doorway with a chamfered surround and a 4-centred head; flanking it are 2 single light windows also with chamfered surrounds. Interior: 6 bays; tie and collar beam trusses. The west end of the barn formerly acted as a pier for a C13/C14 gatehouse (now at Berkeley Castle, Gloucestershire). Part of an important manorial complex, dating from the late C13 and belonging to the Berkeley family and the Crown.
