Description
Yate Court Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 16th century, possibly incorporating earlier elements, but it has undergone significant alterations. The building is rendered and features a double Roman tiled roof with rubble stacks. It has a cross passage with the hall and service area located to the north and likely a parlour to the south. The farmhouse is two storeys high with attics, and the southern range is slightly taller. On the south side, there are two 2-light casement windows and one cross window. To the north, there are two 20th-century casement windows of varying sizes (2, 3, and 4 lights) and a studded plank door to the left, which has a 4-centred head beneath a later hood; the right-hand bay is recessed. There is also a 20th-century single-storey lean-to on the right. At the north end, there is an attached two-storey dairy and cheese loft, and a stair turret projects from the west elevation. Inside, the farmhouse features large stop-chamfered beams, a winder stair, and the hall chamber includes a timber-framed screen wall with a moulded door surround that has a 4-centred head. The roof structure consists of tie and collar beam trusses with slots for windbraces that have been removed. This farmhouse is part of an important manorial complex that dates back to the late 13th century and was associated with the Berkeley family and the Crown.
