Description
Brook Cottage is a 17th-century cottage with later alterations, located on the west side of Old Gloucester Road in Alveston. The building is constructed of rubble with stone dressings and features a pantiled roof. It has a single room plan with a rear outshut and stands two storeys high, with one window that has 19th-century six-pane sashes. The entrance includes a 17th-century plank and ridge door with a four-centred head, and there is a relieving arch above the door and the ground floor window. The east side of the cottage has sandstone rubble infilling the upper part of a former gable stack. Inside, there is one deep-chamfered beam. This cottage is a rare unextended survival of its type.
