Description

Earthcottgreen Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with later alterations and additions. It is constructed of rubble and rendered brick, topped with a double Roman tiled roof featuring gable stacks and diagonal brick chimneys. The building has a T-plan layout, with a former through passage and wings added in the 19th century. It stands two storeys high with an attic and has three windows, all of which are 19th-century casements with three and four lights, complete with drip moulds.

The two gables rise to the height of the main roof ridge and each features a three-light casement with a cornice and ball finials. The central door is set within a moulded surround, adorned with small shields in the spandrels of a depressed four-centred arch, and has a dentilled architrave, a drip mould, and a plank door with planted fillets. There is a 20th-century pitched roof extension to the west and a 19th-century two and one-storey wing to the east, which includes random 20th-century windows and a door with a gauged brick head.

On the east side, there is a half-hip roof to a former dairy block from the 18th century, which aligns with the original house. The rear of the farmhouse features gables that repeat those on the front, with all 20th-century windows and a door. Inside, the farmhouse has deep chamfered beams, early 19th-century stair blocks in the passage, and former stair doors on the ground and first floors. The first floor includes panelled doors with chequered chip carving in bolection moulded frames, as well as decorative flat baluster ventilation in the upper part of a cupboard in the west room, next to the former hall fireplace.
