Description

Commonwealth House is a house dating to the late 17th century, with extensions and alterations made in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of rendered material with stone dressings, and has double Roman tile roofs. Originally two units with gable entry style, the house is two storeys and an attic, with two windows to the front. These windows are cross windows, featuring hollow-chamfered mullions and transoms. A gabled porch with a pointed arch under a hoodmould with figurative stops is located on the left side of the front elevation; the rear windows are of a similar design. A two-storey, three-window rear extension also features cross windows. Inside, there are two four-centred arch fireplaces with mantelshelves. An overmantel at the first floor remains, and is dated SS/1686. Moulded beams and door frames are also present.
