Description
Whitehouse Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse, with an 18th-century north dairy wing and later alterations. The original core dates to 1630. It was extended in the 19th century at the rear. The farmhouse is built of rubble with brick dressings, and has pantiled roofs with brick gable stacks and flues. It originally comprised two rooms and a dairy, with a former through passage. The plan was further extended in the 19th century. The two-and-a-half-storey facade has a symmetrical arrangement of two windows on each floor, all with 19th-century two and three-light casement windows. These have gauged brick relieving arches above the ground and first floor openings. A central porch has a panelled and glazed door within a plain wooden frame. The rear of the farmhouse has a roof that slopes down to a single-storey facade, with one two-light and one three-light casement window, also with gauged brick relieving arches. There is also a small 20th-century brick extension and a 19th-century single-storey addition to the rear. Inside, the interior features ovolo-moulded beams with converging stops, a newel staircase to the attic, a door frame with a depressed four-centred arch, and a plank door with strap hinges on the first floor.
