Description

This is a barn located about 15 metres southeast of Lower Lapdown Farmhouse, originating from the mid-18th century and retiled in 1889, as indicated by the date on the front cart entry. The structure is built from limestone rubble with stone dressings and quoins, and has a rendered right return. The roof is stone tiled, featuring raised coped verges and ball finials at the gables.

The barn has a cruciform plan. The north elevation showcases a high gabled cart entry with a timber lintel and a relieving arch, flanked by lean-tos on both sides; the roof of the left lean-to is missing, while there is a window on the right. Inside the cart entry, there are doors to the right and left, both with timber lintels and relieving arches, leading into the lean-tos. The right return includes a loading door with a cambered head, and the left return features an owl hole in the gable. The rear also has a high gabled cart entry similar to the front, a ventilation slit to the right, and a corrugated iron lean-to, along with a blocked ventilation slit to the left.

Inside, the barn has a five-bay roof supported by a tie-beam, principal rafters, and two rows of purlins, which were added in the 20th century, with two bays corresponding to each cart entry constructed in a similar style.
