Description
No. 86 Broad Street is a building dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century. It is constructed of rubble with a double Roman tile roof and features two storeys and a gabled attic. The first floor has two windows with ovolo-moulded stone surrounds, mullions and transoms, and casements with lead cames, all topped with dripmoulds that have returned stops under exposed timber lintels. The second floor window in the gable is similar. The ground floor includes a 19th-century bay shop window and 20th-century doors. The elevation facing Horse Street has two similar windows on both the ground and first floors. The rear has a steep gable with a stack and a two-storey 19th-century extension. The building also features decorated rainwater heads on the front and side. Nos. 84 and 86 are notable examples of the gabled houses of Chipping Sodbury.
