Description
No. 84 on Broad Street is a building dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century. It is constructed of rubble and features a double Roman tile roof. The building has two storeys with a gabled attic. On the first floor, there are two windows, which are 3-light casements with lead cames, surrounded by ovolo moulding and mullions, and have dripmoulds with returned stops. In the attic gable, there is a second-floor window consisting of two 2-light casements with plain glazing, along with a blocked oval window in a rectangular panel above each.
The ground floor includes a bay with a modern window and a low door that is set under a slated pitched roof. Inside, there are extended collar beam trusses with windbracing and crudely chamfered beams. Nos 84 and 86 are notable examples of the gabled houses found in Chipping Sodbury.
