Description
No. 5 Albemarle Villas is a villa built around 1827 by John Foulston, part of a planned group of villas. The building features stucco with a plinth and sill band, and a bitumen-grouted slate hipped roof with paired brackets at the projecting eaves. There is a rendered stack on the right side. The villa has a double-depth plan with the entrance located behind the left-hand part. It is two storeys high and has a two-window range on the garden front, while the entrance front, which is symmetrical, has a three-window arrangement on the left-hand return. The ground floor has 20th-century windows and French windows. The garden front includes a five-bay verandah with a glazed roof supported by slender cast-iron columns. The entrance front features an enclosed porch with a heavy moulded cornice. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is likely to be of interest. The road-frontage railings are included as a separate item. This villa is part of a notable group of villas designed by Foulston.
