Description

Villa in a planned group of residences, built around 1827 by John Foulston. The villa is constructed of incised stucco with stucco detailing, and features a dry slate hipped roof with projecting eaves. It has panelled stuccoed stacks with moulded cornices, with the central stack prominent on the entrance front, which is gabled. The building follows a double-depth plan with an entrance hall located behind the left-hand portion. It has a two-window range facing the garden and a symmetrical three-window entrance front on the left-hand return. The windows are 20th-century replacements; those on the first floor and the left-hand return have external louvred shutters. A cast-iron balcony is situated on the first floor of the garden front, positioned above a three-bay verandah with wooden posts and stone balustrading. The entrance front has a tripartite window above an enclosed porch with a round-arched doorway, supported by Doric columns and a moulded entablature. The interior remains uninspected but is likely to contain features of interest. Original iron railings along the road frontage are included as a separate listed item. Number 6 is part of a distinguished group of villas designed by Foulston.
