Description
No. 4 Albemarle Villas is a villa built around 1827 by architect John Foulston, located in a planned group of villas. The building features a stucco exterior with stucco detailing and a dry slate hipped roof that has projecting eaves. Rendered stacks rise over the side walls. It has a double-depth plan with an entrance hall situated behind the left-hand front room. The villa is two storeys high, with a garden front that has a symmetrical two-window range and a three-window entrance front on the left-hand return. The windows are two-pane sashes. The garden front includes a first-floor balcony adorned with an ornate cast-iron balustrade supported by slender columns with large capitals and scrolled spandrel brackets. There is also an enclosed porch featuring a moulded entablature and round-arched openings. While the interior has not been inspected, it is expected to be of interest. The road-frontage railings are included as a separate item. This villa is part of a distinguished group of villas designed by Foulston.
