Description
No. 7 Albemarle Villas is a villa built around 1827 by John Foulston, located in a planned group of villas. The building is constructed of stucco and features a mid-floor string and other stucco details. It has a bitumen-grouted slate hipped roof with projecting eaves and rendered stacks over the side walls. The villa has a double-depth plan with an entrance hall behind the left-hand room. It is two storeys high and has a three-window range on the garden front, with a symmetrical three-window front that includes blind windows on the left-hand return. The first-floor windows are from the 20th century, while the ground floor features tall hornless sashes with glazing bars, supported by moulded brackets on consoles. There is a first-floor balcony adorned with cast-iron scrolled and anthemion detail, carried on iron brackets and slender posts, with an iron balustrade in between. The entrance front has a distyle open porch with square columns and an entablature that includes a moulded cornice, leading to a six-panel door. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest. The road-frontage railings are included as a separate item. This villa is part of a distinguished group of villas designed by Foulston.
