Villa in planned group. c1827 by John Foulston. Stucco with mid-floor string and other stucco detail; bitumen-grouted slate hipped roof with projecting eaves; rendered stacks over the side walls. Double-depth plan with entrance hall behind the left-hand room. 2 storeys; 3-window-range garden front and symmetrical 3-window front with blind windows to left-hand return. C20 windows to 1st floor; moulded brackets on consoles above tall hornless sashes with glazing bars to ground floor; 1st-floor balcony with cast-iron scrolled and anthemion detail carried on iron brackets and slender posts with iron balustrade between. Entrance front has distyle open porch with square columns and entablature with moulded cornice; 6-panel door. INTERIOR: not inspected but likely to be of interest. Road-frontage railings included as separate item. Part of a fine group of villas by Foulston. (The Buildings of England: Pevsner N: Devon: London: 1989-: 673).
