Description
This is a planned terrace of seven houses, with later shops and a public house, dating to around 1830. The building is constructed of stucco, with probable slate or asbestos slate roofs largely concealed behind stuccoed parapets and a moulded entablature. Brick end stacks are visible. The arrangement is of a double-depth plan.
Externally, the building presents a regular fourteen-window facade across three storeys plus attics. Most windows are original hornless sash windows with glazing bars, although exceptions exist at numbers 11 and 13, and on the second floor of number 10. Numbers 8-10 retain their original rusticated end pilasters, visible on the ground floor between the shops. Numbers 9-14 feature original panelled window pilasters, with some rising through the moulded hoods and featuring sill brackets. A moulded cornice above the shop fascias is present on numbers 9-14, with the exception of numbers 9 and 10. Number 9 has a good late 19th-century shopfront with round-arched lights. The other shopfronts show varying degrees of alteration; number 12 has had a late 19th-century shopfront removed and replaced with a smaller window, while number 11 features a crude 20th-century shopfront. The shopfronts at numbers 10 and 14 are also 20th-century.
The interiors have not been inspected.
The building is considered to have group value for its contribution to the historic streetscape.
