Description
No. 7 Cumberland Street is a house built around 1830, situated between two planned terraces in Devonport, Plymouth. The building is constructed of stucco and features significant architectural detailing. Its roof is concealed behind a parapet topped with a squat triangular pediment, and it has brick stacks at each end. The house has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall.
The front facade has three bays, with a pediment above giant Corinthian pilasters. The central bay is wider and features segmental arches over slightly recessed tripartite windows that are currently boarded up. The flanking bays have round-arched niches with large vases on the first floor, while the second-floor windows are also boarded up and have panelled aprons beneath their sills. The ground floor displays channelled rustication around the doorway on the left, with a boarded-up shopfront on the right.
The interior has not been inspected but is likely to contain features of interest. This building is a striking commercial design and is part of a planned group along Cumberland Street and George Street.
