Description
Numbers 3 to 10 on Portland Villas in Plymouth are a planned terrace of villas, now used as offices, dating from the mid-19th century. The buildings are constructed of stucco with stucco detailing and feature asbestos slate hipped roofs with projecting eaves. They have central axial stacks and end stacks to the right. Each villa has a double-depth plan, likely consisting of two rooms at the front, a porch to the right, and a lower service wing on the right side.
The villas are two storeys high with a basement, each displaying a three-window range on the front, with the left side being symmetrical and featuring blind central windows. The remaining windows are late 19th or 20th century two-pane sashes. Notable stucco details include channelled rustication on the ground floor with segmental arches over windows set in recessed panels, a mid-floor band, and distyle porches supported by square columns with a moulded entablature.
The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest. The forecourt features low stuccoed and coped walls with square gate-piers. This terrace is part of a significant group of mid-19th century villas.
