Description
15 Portland Villas is a mid-19th century villa located in a planned group in Plymouth. The building is constructed of stucco with decorative stucco details and features a dry slate hipped roof with projecting eaves and a central break topped by a moulded triangular pediment. It has stuccoed end stacks with moulded cornices. The villa has a double-depth plan, likely consisting of two rooms at the front flanking a central entrance hall.
The structure is two storeys high with a basement and has a symmetrical three-bay front. The central bay, which is pedimented, is slightly set forward and flanked by pilasters. The windows are late 19th century horned sashes without glazing bars, with the ground floor windows designed as pilastered canted bays that have moulded cornices and hipped roofs. A moulded mid-floor string runs across the façade.
On the first floor, the windows have moulded architraves, and the central bay features a pseudo parapet that acts as a window apron. There is also an entablature above a pilastered porch, which has a moulded hood over the doorway that contains a pair of panelled doors and a leaded glazed inner door. The interior has not been inspected but is expected to be of interest. This villa is part of a notable group of mid-19th century villas.
