Description

Number 16 is a villa built in the mid-19th century, part of a planned group of villas in Plymouth. It features a stucco exterior with decorative stucco details and a dry slate hipped roof with projecting eaves. The building has a double-depth plan, likely consisting of two rooms at the front and a central entrance hall. It is two storeys high with a symmetrical three-window front, featuring hornless sashes without glazing bars. The stucco detailing includes channelled rustication on the ground floor, rusticated voussoirs above the segmental-arched windows, end pilasters, and a mid-floor band. The central porch is pilastered and has consoles, a moulded hood over the doorway, and a moulded cornice topped with a parapet that has a central turned balustrade. The entrance includes an overlight and a pair of panelled doors. The interior has not been inspected but is expected to be of interest. The villa is complemented by garden walls on either side, which extend parallel to the front of the house, forming low coped stuccoed walls with square gate-piers that have plinths and squat pyramidal caps. This property is part of a notable group of mid-19th century villas.
