Description
26 and 28 Underwood Road is a former ropery that has been converted into a shop and a house. It dates back to the 18th century and features painted rubble walls with some brick arches, a steep dry slate roof, and brick end stacks. The building has a rectangular plan and stands three storeys high with a two-window range.
The central window on the second floor is blocked, while the other windows have wide openings under segmental arches. The ground floor on the left has a small 19th-century pilastered two-light shop window with a moulded entablature. Above this, there is a late 19th-century or 20th-century tripartite horned sash window, and a similar paired sash window to the right on the ground floor. There is also a 20th-century tripartite casement window with glazing bars above.
There are two doorways: one to the right of the shop window features an old glazed and panelled door under a segmental arch, and the other doorway at the far right has a 20th-century door under a timber lintel. The interior has not been inspected.
