Description
Tower House is a house that incorporates the remains of a former priory, dating back to the 12th century. It features a doorway and part of the ground-floor walls from this period, while the rest of the structure is from the mid to late 19th century. The building is constructed from killas rubble with granite and freestone dressings, topped with a dry slate roof that has a front attic gable and a brick stack on the left. The roof is adorned with crested clay ridge tiles and has a shaped barge board and fascia board. The house has a small rectangular plan, with a lean-to extension at the rear on the right and a conservatory in the angle.
The exterior consists of three storeys plus an attic, with a one-window range. The attic gable features a lancet window, likely from the 13th century and re-used. There is a two-storey oriel window with slate-hung aprons on the upper floors, which contains early or mid-20th century three-light leaded casements and sidelights. The ground floor has a 12th-century moulded doorway, which has been fitted with a window. The right-hand return wall includes several small medieval windows.
In front of the house on the left, there is a high rubble garden wall that features a pair of square brick gate-piers on its right. These gate-piers have plinths, rendered shaped panels with central vermiculation, moulded cornices, and stepped caps with moulded finials.
