Description
Phippens Farmhouse is a detached house dating from the 18th century, with some alterations made in the early 19th century. The building is finished in limewashed render and has a pantile roof. It stands two storeys high with an attic and features a three-window south front, flanked by lean-to extensions on either side. The main block has windows that are 16-pane sashes. The central doorway is topped by a semi-circular head and includes a plain fanlight, leading to a glazed small pane two-leaf door. The roof is double span with four rendered stacks at the ends.
On the rear facade, there is a six-panel door and early 19th-century cast iron casements. Inside, the ground floor rear left room contains a large inglenook fireplace. The late 18th-century staircase features turned balusters, and several rooms on both the ground and first floors have early 19th-century wall paintings depicting landscapes around Blagdon, complete with idealised figures, though these are now covered with wallpaper.
