Description

Court Farmhouse is a detached house dating from the 16th century, with significant remodelling in the 17th century, and later alterations and restoration in the 19th and 20th centuries. The house is constructed of colourwashed rubble with stone copings and a 20th-century double Roman tile roof. It has a T-shaped plan, comprising a long two-story, five-window range, a 16th-century wing to the right, and a 17th-century addition to the left, with a further wing to the rear. The 16th-century range features 2- and 3-light 19th-century casement windows. The 17th-century range has 2-light 20th-century casement windows. A centrally located part-glazed door has a flat hood supported by ironwork brackets. Three ridge stacks are visible on the roof. The interior shows evidence of a cross passage. The right-hand ground floor room contains Tudor-arched doorways and plank doors leading to a newel staircase and an additional room, and features a compartmented ceiling with deeply chamfered beams. Inglenooks are present in both rooms on the right-hand side. The upper right-hand room has a blocked fireplace with floral decoration on the plaster to the jambs, and contains further Tudor-arched doorframes by the newel staircase.
