Description
Blagdon Court and Court Cottage is a detached house, now divided into two separate ownerships. It was built in the early 19th century, with a late 19th-century extension at the rear. The exterior features a mix of render, stone, and brick dressings, topped with slate roofs and ashlar stacks. The building has an L-shaped plan and the east front is two storeys high with an attic, featuring five windows. The ground floor windows and the central upper window are plate glass sashes, while the remaining windows are 12-pane sashes with external shutters. The central doorway is flanked by attached columns and has an entablature with Soaneian finials, along with a segmental fanlight that includes glazing bars. The entrance has a two-leaf, part-glazed door from the 20th century. A deeply projecting bracketed eaves cornice leads to a central pediment, which contains a Diocletian window. There is a gable apex stack and several stacks at the rear. The late 19th-century rear wing has similar window designs. Inside, there is a barrel-vaulted entrance hall and a unique staircase made from sections of a cast iron bed.
