Description

The Old Shop is a former detached house, now divided into two separate residences. It dates back to the 16th century, with alterations made to the front windows in the 17th century. The building is constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone, with a thin stone slate roof and a 20th-century limestone stack. It has a rectangular plan, although a 20th-century extension to the right is not of special architectural interest.

The building is two storeys high, with an attic garret. The left gable-end features a 2-light, double-chamfered stone-mullioned casement window with a stopped hood. The front facade has a four-window arrangement, with 2 and 3-light, double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements also featuring stopped hoods. On the left side of the front door, there is a large, 9-pane former shop window. Two smaller windows are located lower down, one with a stilted head, carved spandrels, and a stopped hood on the left, and one with a double-chamfered stone surround on the right; these windows originally lit a cellar.

The central front door is a 19th-century plank door, approached by three steps, and has decorative hinges and a thumb latch, set within a 4-centred arched surround with carved spandrels and a stopped hood. The rear elevation has three 2-light stone-mullioned casements with stilted heads, carved spandrels, and stopped hoods. A stack is located on the right gable-end. The left gable-end has flat gable-end coping topped with a roll-cross saddle. Two 20th-century skylights are also present. The interior has not been inspected.
