Description

Farmhouse. It likely has a core dating back to the 15th century, with alterations and additions from the 16th and 17th centuries. The south front is roughcast, while the rear is of coursed rubble with large, square rusticated quoins. It has stone copings and a pantile roof. The building is arranged in an L shape with a cross passage. The front garden consists of three separate sections: a central section with a hall and passage, a right-hand addition containing a grand solar, and a further addition to the left containing a parlour. It is two storeys high. The left-hand section has two windows, with large-pane C19 casements under segmental heads on the ground floor. The central section also has two windows with similar fenestration. The right-hand wing has matching windows, plus a small ogee-headed window below the eaves to light a stair turret. There is a round-headed studded plank door to the left of the central section, another C19 door with marginal glazing and a flat hood on carved brackets to the right-hand wing, and an ogee-headed light on a garderobe projection on the east wall. The steeply gabled roofs have three ridge stacks. A rear service wing dates to the 17th century. Inside, there are two oak-framed doorways between the lobby and parlour, potentially from the 15th century, and a studded plank door to the passage. The hall has a large inglenook and chamfered cross beams. The solar has a moulded stone architrave to the doorway with a studded plank door, a similar door with a Tudor arch to the newel stair, a six-panel compartmented ceiling, and a Tudor arched fireplace. This building demonstrates group value through its significant architectural and historical interest.
