Description

This is a large, subdivided house situated on a terrace, dating to around 1860. The front is constructed of ashlar, with the central portion projecting slightly. Corner pilasters are topped with moulded capitals, and a cornice runs above the second storey. A sill band marks the level of the first floor, and the ground floor features banded rustication. The house has three storeys plus attics, originally with three windows on the front elevation, though the attic windows lack architrave surrounds. The first-floor windows have deep cornices with volute details, and feature sash windows with glazing bars. Entrances are located under triglyph friezes in extensions to the left and right. Decorative wrought-iron handrails are positioned high above the road. The house is part of a group that includes numbers 5 to 17 (odd), 17a, 19 and 21, Hill Road.
