Description

This is an elaborate Gothic house, dating from approximately 1860. It is constructed of coursed rubble with patterned ashlar dressings, and features marble shafts framing window and door openings. The house is two storeys high plus attics. The front elevation has canted bays on both sides, which extend upwards with gabled dormers into hipped slate roofs. An eaves cornice includes brackets, and a sill band runs along the first floor. Four windows are present on both the ground and first floors of the bays, each with pointed arches, cusped lights, and foliage capitals. The windows are sash windows without glazing bars. A central doorway, sheltered by a gabled hood, supports a diagonally-placed turret rising to a spire topped with a weathervane. The turret has a cusped light on each face. A carved lion rampart adorns the hood above the doorway, which is flanked by curved stone brackets on marble columns. The building forms a group with Nos 5 to 17 (odd), 17a, 19 and 21.
