Description
The bathing pond, located about 650 metres southeast of Gable Farm, is an open-air bathing facility built around the 1890s. It features a combination of concrete with dressed and rough stone coping. The structure includes a small circular pond to the north, which is connected by a narrow-neck channel to a long, curved pond that has a weir across it and a small curved dam at the south end with an outflow sump. There are stone access steps on the west side of the south pond, along with an iron handrail surrounding the south pond and an iron hand-pump on the weir. The circular north pond has rustic stone coping, with the south pond being approximately 5 feet deep and the north pond about 2 feet deep. This pond is situated to the south of Tyntesfield Park in Bathing Pond Wood. It was constructed by Lord Wraxall of Tyntesfield Park and is a rare example of a Victorian country house open-air bathing pond that remains completely intact.
