Description

The Old Angel and Angel Cottage, formerly known as the Angel Inn, is a detached house that has been converted into two cottages. It dates from the mid-17th century and was extended to the right in the early 19th century. The building is rendered and features a pantile roof with coped raised verges and a parapet with moulded corners on the left side, along with brick stacks.

The Old Angel section is two storeys tall with an attic and consists of three bays. It has 2-, 1-, and 4-light casement windows that have ovolo moulded mullions and surrounds, all set beneath a continuous string course. The central entrance features a studded, panelled door within an ogee and ovolo moulded frame. To the right, Angel Cottage is also two storeys high, with a combination of sash and casement windows. The ground floor has two plain doors to the right, while the first floor has two 16-pane sash windows.

At the rear of the Old Angel, there is a gabled projecting stair tower and a gabled rear wing. Inside the Old Angel, you will find stop-chamfered beams along with ovolo and hollow moulded beams, and moulded doorframes. The living room, which serves as the hall, features an ashlar fireplace with a 4-centred lintel, sunken spandrels, and a decorative fluted frieze and cornice. The room above has a similar fireplace but with a plain frieze and a dentilled cornice, along with a rear winder stair.
