Description
Atlantic Cottage is a farmhouse dating from the 18th century, with eaves raised and other alterations made in the late 19th century. It is constructed of roughly coursed granite rubble and features a slurried Delabole slate roof with granite end stacks. The building has a two-unit central-staircase plan and stands two storeys high with a three-window range. There are granite lintels above a late 19th-century panelled door on the right and a half-glazed door on the left, as well as above late 19th-century horned 2/2-pane sash windows. To the left, there is a late 19th-century glazed shed that was built for the flower industry. Inside, the cottage retains a complete Scillonian interior, which includes beaded plank partitions, a mid-19th-century fireplace with roundels on the right, and a kitchen fireplace on the left with a bracketed mantelshelf flanked by 19th-century cupboards, one of which still has 18th-century H-hinges.
