Description
No. 12, Shitterton is a detached cottage with origins in the 17th century, altered in the 18th and 20th centuries. The cottage is constructed of pebble-dashed cob walls, topped with a thatched roof, and features brick end stacks. It is a one-storey building with attics. The front wall is buttressed and includes a glazed front door. The ground floor has four casement windows with glazing bars. The attic space has two and a half dormers and one window under the eaves, all casement windows with glazing bars. A 20th-century wing extends from the rear, constructed with plastered walls and a thatched roof. The main ground floor room contains a large open fireplace. The property is documented in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments as Monument 35.
