54 And 56, Cheap Street

Nos 54 and 56 on Cheap Street are two small buildings dating from around 1850, located at the entrance to the Methodist Church. They feature two-storey, one-bay ashlar fronts with doorways positioned in the splayed inner corner bays. The buildings have slate gabled roofs, with No 56 displaying an upper window that has a slate gable and bargeboard above it. Each building has contemporary shop fronts, with one window facing Cheap Street and another on the return fronts, both featuring similarly shaped fanlights above the corner doorways. The return fronts are made of brick and have three windows each on the upper level, while the lower level includes a shop window, a square-headed doorway, and a segmental-headed window. The door to No 54 has cover strips, while No 56 features a six-flush panelled door. At the west end, there are windows set at an intermediate level and arranged on a curve. These buildings, along with the gate, lamp, and overthrow between them, the Methodist Church, and Nos 58 to 82, form a group.
