Description
Way Farmhouse 1 and 2 are two attached cottages that were joined together in the 18th century, with an earlier core dating back to the early 17th century. The buildings have undergone rebuilding in the 18th and 20th centuries.
Way Farm 1 is positioned at right angles to the road and features rubble-stone walls and a concrete tile roof. It has a brick stack at the gable end and another on the right-hand ridge. The cottage is 1½ storeys high and has three windows, which are three-light wooden casements with glazing bars. There are two 20th-century dormers with flat felt roofs. The central front door is flush and has four glass lights, and there is a stone porch with a segmental stone arch-head and stone gable-coping, dating from the 19th century.
Way Farm 2 runs along the road and is built with the same materials. It is also 1½ storeys tall and has three windows, which are two-light wooden casements with glazing bars. There are three 20th-century dormers featuring two-light casements with single glass lights. The front door is a stable door located on the left side at ground level and dates from the 20th century.
Inside Way Farm 1, there is a large open fireplace on the gable wall facing the lane, with coursed stone jambs and a keyed wooden lintel, as well as a bread oven. Way Farm 2 features a plank-and-muntin screen, which may have been reset from the 16th century, and a heavy-chamfered ceiling beam.
