Description
The Old Rectory is a Grade II* listed house, formerly known as The Old Manor House and The Vicarage, built around 1780, likely designed by Sir William Chambers. The building features plastered walls and a hipped stone slate roof with brick stacks at the center. It has a double-pile plan and a lead flat at the center of the roof. The house is two storeys high with an attic. The entrance has a central flush panel door flanked by sidelights with glazing bars, and above it is a lunette window with glazing bars, all slightly recessed. On either side of this central feature, there are two sash windows with glazing bars on both the ground and first floors. The attic includes three hipped dormers with casements that have a central glazing bar. At the right end of the building, there is a lean-to outbuilding made of flint with a slate roof, and behind it is a single-storey range of outbuildings featuring one ledged door and a pair of garage doors.
Inside, the decor is rather plain, with a cut string staircase that has blocked spandrels, plain balusters, and a wreathed handrail. There are also some raised panel doors.
