Description
A late 17th-century post office and two attached cottages stand in a row within Litton Cheney village. The building is constructed of rubble stone with a thatched roof, featuring a brick stack centrally along the ridge. It is a one-and-a-half-story structure with gable ends and has five windows, each with two or three lights and cast-iron casements containing glazing bars. Wooden cills and lintels are also present. The post office entrance is on the left, with a 20th-century door. Two further doors, positioned next to each other at the centre, are planked with four glass lights, and are also from the 20th century. Inside Peggottys, the right-hand ground floor room contains a large open fireplace with a wooden bressummer, straight-chamfered with run-out stops. A brick-lined bread oven is built into the left-hand jamb of the fireplace. The ground floor also features roughly-chamfered ceiling beams.
