Description
California Farmhouse is a building likely dating from the 18th century. It features Purbeck stone walls, which are partly rendered, and a Purbeck stone roof with a brick stack. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has an entrance with a stone porch that includes a modern door. The windows on both the ground and first floors have been replaced with modern versions. Notable architectural features include large buttresses on the south wall. The west (rear) wall has a lean-to extension and a porch with a modern tiled roof. A new house has been added to the north, which is attached to the original farmhouse. Although the house has undergone some alterations, it remains significant as one of the surviving outlying farms of Swanage. The range of farm buildings surrounding the yard at the back of the house, which have stone walls and corrugated iron roofs, are not listed.
