70, West Street

Number 70 on West Street is an 18th-century building with a front added in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of stucco and features a pitched slate roof with a red brick chimney stack. The building has two storeys and a parapet, with rusticated quoins at the corners. The ground floor is horizontally rusticated and includes a continuous entablature that covers the entrance passage, which has a fanlight set in deep reveals. The shopfront is notable for its slender mullions and ornamental spandrels around the windows. On the first floor, there are two bipartite sash windows with plain raised surrounds. At the rear, there is a two-storey red brick extension with a half-hipped corrugated iron roof and a row of casement windows with glazing bars. There are also additional one-storey extensions with pitched slate roofs and stone slates above the eaves. Number 70 is part of a group with numbers 68 to 76 on the same side of the street.
